MEET DR. YANG - CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

I had first-hand exposure to Blue Ridge Hospice when my father-in-law was reaching the end of his life. Erin, his primary nurse and the others on his care team including a social worker, music therapist, and medical assistants were unaware of my being a physician or that I was on the Board of Directors.

This confirmed to me that the excellent care he received was their normal standard. My family and I remain thoroughly impressed and grateful for every person who cared for him.

LEAVE YOUR LEGACY

As an estate planning and probate attorney, I see death, and the heartache that accompanies it, every day. I watch as the dying and their loved ones struggle with fear, physical and emotional pain, grief, depression, and more.

But, in the midst of this darkness, I also see incredible lights – love, strength, sacrifice, and many others.

One of these lights is when someone leaves a legacy – something which says, “This is what my life meant, this is what I cared about, or this is what I thought was important.”

WE ARE HERE TO STAY

The announcement of the plans for the former Winchester Memorial Hospital has raised concern for supporters of a current resident of the building. Blue Ridge Hospice has been based out of the 333 West Cork Street property since the 1980’s and currently utilizes the entire 4th floor for administrative offices and their Inpatient Care Center. Training rooms and additional offices are utilized on the 2nd floor at Cork Street by Blue Ridge Hospice.

Cheryl, Hospice Hero

FEBRUARY #HospiceHero
Cheryl, CFO since 2003

I worked in public accounting for over 8 years and I specialized in non-profits.  Non-profits captured my heart and I was hooked. I was on the board for Blue Ridge Hospice for 3 years and when the opportunity came to work here, I was very excited and humbled to be asked to join such a special team. BRH takes care of patients and their families at the most vulnerable point in their life. We aim to make sure the journey through the end of life is special for everyone. I am so privileged to be able to help the clinical team work with the patients and families, and we are so blessed to be invited to be into the lives of those in our community. Starting the thrift shops 15 years ago was a huge challenge for me but I am so glad that we did, because they help make providing the best care for everyone possible, regardless of ability to pay. It is such a blessing to work with BRH and I could not imagine being anywhere else!
